OK so this is about the coolest thing ever. There's a program, called CHDK, that you can put on your little Canon Point & Shoot, that allows you do all sorts of cool things like shooting raw, using crazy shutter speeds like 1/64,000th of a sec (sync'd!) or 64 seconds, even. Use the in-camera ND-filter, set up time-lapse photography, motion-detection photography, and so much more. There's a huge community devoted to this and it's really cool stuff. It's been around for a while, and it's completely safe. For me, I want it primarily for the ability to shoot images in RAW - and why not? My little SD 870 produces some amazingly good images, and if I have the ability to shoot RAW, I can get even more control over scenes like this :)
I'm also currently exploring the use of the in-camera ND filters, longer exposures, and more - mostly on my Infrared-modded SD870 IS. I can't wait to give this a go as well in the High Sierras on my workshop.
EDIT: I have two SD-870 IS cameras, one color and one Infrared Converted. With the firmware on, shooting in RAW, I put a neat 5-shot stitch together, here. Click the image to see a 100% crop of the upper right, I'm totally digging now noise-free the sky is, and how sharp the leaves are!

w00p, 28mm and RAW in my pocket!

Cool pics-this is probably a really stupid question, but how do you go about getting your canon digi compacts converted for IR use?
@JR, checkout lifepixel.com and maxmax.com both are quality outfits that will convert most any camera :)
Thanks Andy :-)
